モデルカーについて

モデルカーのスケール（縮尺）と材質

モデルカーのスケールは1/18、1/24、1/43、1/87 が中心です．この他に1/8 や1/12 などの大きなものもあります．
また、材質によって金属のダイキャスト製、樹脂のレジン製、プラスチック製（プラスチックモデルが多い）の３種類に分類できます．

１/１８ スケール

殆んどがダイキャスト製で、さすがにサイズが大きいので存在感があり、ドアやエンジンフードが開くなどディテールも精巧にできています．殆んどがステアリングと前輪が連動して動くようになっています．ただし、比較的大きいので駐車スペースがあまり無い場合、置く場所に困ってしまいます．

１/２４ スケール

プラモデルの標準スケールになっています．BMW の完成品は少ないですが、「Paul's Model Art」製などはダイキャスト製でかなり精巧にできています．当コレクションにはレジンキットが一部ありますが、多くはプラモデルを組み立てたものです．

１/４３ スケール

世界標準スケールと呼べるもので、最も多くの種類が出ています．ダイキャスト製の完成品、レジンキット、レジン完成品とそのバリエーションも多くのものがあります．ダイキャスト完成品は量産向けの製品が多く、レジンキットは量産化しにくいマニア向けの車種が多いようです．よりディテールを望むのなら、レジンキットを購入し、資料（これは自分で集めるしかありません）に従って自ら手を入れる必要があります．そのため、レジンキットは上級者向けと言えるでしょう．

１/８７ スケール

スケールはプラスチック製が殆んどで、HO スケールとも呼ばれるように、元々鉄道模型のジオラマ用だったものが、独立したコレクション・アイテムになったものです．小さくてもある程度のディテールが表現されていて、場所もとらず安価なので結構お勧めです．

Range of scale and materials

The range of scales is mainly from 1:18 to 1:87.
Model cars are made of many kind of materials as ainly die casting, resin and plastic.  In case of plastic most of 1:24 are plastic model kits that I finished.

Scale 1:18

These superb models with metal bodies are really eye-catching as a result of the intricate detail and working parts such as opening doors, true to life engines and working steering together front wheels. You may need larger space where model cars are displayed because size of this scale is comparatively large.

Scale 1:24

This scale is standard scale of plastic model kits.  Die casting model is not so many but there are some high quality models made by Paul's Model Art.  Some models made of die casting and resin are on my tables but most are plastic model kits I finished.

Scale 1:43

The most popular international scale for collectors.  The most kind of models are made of die casting, resin kit and resin finished.  Die casting models are for mass production and resin for enthusiasts.  If you hope for more details, you buy a resin model kit and you have to finish it according to some data or photos you have collected.  Therefore resin kit is for advanced collectors.

Scale 1:87

Most are made of plastic and detail is high level although they are very small.  As called "HO", this scale is originally a model for diorama of model railroad.  This scale is maybe recommendation because low price and large space to display is not necessary as size is comparatively small.

レジンキットは完成品も売られています．

レジンキットでは、メーカーがキットとは別に完成品も販売していることが多く、作るのが面倒な人は完成品を購入することができます． また、メーカ完成品が無いものは、プロのモデラー達によって造られた完成品も販売されていて、メーカ完成品よりも精巧に仕上げられている場合が多いようです．
完成品はいずれもかなり高価で、メーカー完成品で20,000～50,000円、プロの場合は更に40,000～100,000円位です． そう簡単には手が出ません．

玩具ではない

いずれも、チョロQやトミカ等を除いて、玩具ではなくコレクターズ・アイテムとして販売されています． PL法に触れるため、輸入品でも必ず not a toy と書かれています．

BMWのモデルカー

BMWのモデルカーは、相当の種類があります． いずれのスケールも一般市場向けの製品と、BMWがOEMで特注販売しているものがあります．
特注品は日本のディーラーで購入できるものもありますが、全て扱えるとは限らないようです（当然ドイツ本国では全て手に入るはず）． また、モデルカー店でも入手できる場合があります． これほど多くの種類のディーラー扱いのモデルカーがある自動車メーカーは、BMW以外にはないでしょう．
特注品は外国製品だけでしたが、以前は「UT Models」「MINICHAMPS」製などが多かったのですが、最近は日本の「京商 Kyosho」がBMW とライセンス契約を結んだので、京商製も多くなっています．

一般市場品と特注品では次のように差別化されています．

①特注品は専用ケースに収められています．
②一般市場品には無いカラーが存在します．
③1/87 スケールでは、一般市場品はBMW マークがエンボスで表現されているだけですが、BMW特注品はしっかりとマークが貼られています．
④ナンバープレートが付いている場合があります．

当コレクションは、BMW を全て収集しているわけではなく、世界標準サイズの1/43 スケールが中心です． 気に入ったものがあれば、他のスケールでも集めています．

Finished model is also sold in case of resin kit

Some manufacturers of resin model kit sell finished models too, therefore those who think it difficult to finish resin kit by themselves can buy a finished model.  Some models without being built by the manufacturers are finished by professional modelers and sold at some shops.
They are always more elaborately than the manufacturers finished models.  But finished models are very expensive.

Not a toy

Model cars are not toys but collector's items except Tomica or pull-back toys.  You can find "Collector's model" or "not a toy" or "Accurate Scale Model" on the box.

BMW model cars

Many kinds of BMW model cars are sold.  There are products that are made for general market and for BMW exclusive model.
BMW exclusive model is available at BMW dealership and also at some model cars shops.  There is no automobile company in the world except BMW that has so many exclusive model cars.
Exclusive models were made by European manufacturers as "UT Models" or "MINICHAMPS". But these made by Japanese company "Kyosho" is increasing because Kyosho made a license contact with BMW AG.

The differences between general market models and exclusive models are as below.

1. Exclusive model is put in an exclusive box.
2. There are some exclusive color models.
3. BMW trademark is expressed by only embossed on general market models but BMW stickers are put on exclusive models in case of 1:87 scale.
4. License plates are put on an exclusive model.

I do collect not all BMW models but mainly international scale 1/43 models.  Of course I collect other scale models if I love it.
